Abstract

This paper is based on a Public Health Forum presented by the Centre for Infectious Diseases at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University, on 22 June 2006. It summarises the most important facts about polio in the context of the 2006 outbreak of the disease in Namibia and aims to provide the practitioner with the necessary information to face the unexpected re-emergence of an almost forgotten disease in the sub region.
