Abstract
South Africa is increasingly becoming recognised as an important international drug centre. This is in terms of production, transport, as well as usage of illicit substances. In addition to the local production of significant amounts of marijuana and methaqualone (“Mandrax”), South Africa is also becoming more and more popular as an international transport hub for foreign-produced substances.1 These include cocaine from South America and heroin from Afghanistan, bound for Europe, North America and the rest of Africa.1
