Cholera
Abstract
Cholera spread to 15 cholera-free countries or areas during the 1973 - 7977 period. In 7977, some 34 countries reported the disease. Little is known about the real situation in less developed countries because of the difficulties of surveillance. During the massive population shifts resulting from the Pakistani - Indian War in 1971, thousands of deaths were due to cholera. An outbreak in Italy and an epidemic in Portugal occurred in 1973.
