Abstract

The first part of an abridged elective report compiled by medical students at the university of the Witwatersrand. With a title as broad as "The Role of the Women Doctor in South Africa" it is clear that some choice and limitations had to be made. It was decided to concentrate on a specific area of the topic which proved to be both interesting and relevant to the medical professional This was, undoubtedly, an explanation of the mismatched sexual stratification which characterised the profession. Certain specific role comparisons were also made for male and female doctors.
