Abstract
Gastroscopy is seen as an important relatively simple and safe examination which can be done by the general practitioner to the patients advantage, facilitating early recognition of, inter alia, cancer of the stomach. The development of the gastroscopy is sketched and the differences between the available instruments are pointed out. The technique, as applied in general practice, is described and a statistical analysis of examinations done during a six-month period is given.
