Abstract
The incidence of malignant disease rises sharply with age, and. the GP's role in this field is dealt with. The author discusses the etiology, the preventive aspects, the use of appropriate drug s, the psychological factors as well as the caring aspects and, management of dying patients. Two patient vignettes illustrate some of these aspects.
