Abstract
A descriptive account of the occurrence of illnesses/diseases in a rural community derived from routinely collected data in general practice, is presented. It is shown that the young,0 to 14 year olds, bear the major burden of communicable diseases in this community. The seasonal variation in the occurrence of these diseases (measles, pertussis, diarrhoeal dis eases, respiratory infections, sexually transmitted diseases) is also revealed, as well as the temporal trends between 1970- 1976. The preventive implications are highlighted.
