Abstract
South Africa has one of the highest levels of stress related disease in the world. Problems include racial and political tension, double digit inflation, and dualistic economy. Management of stress requires a holistic approach - with treatment directed towards mind and body, as well as teaching strategies to cope with the social, family and working environment. A full medical assessment, including lipid profile will identified cardiovascular risk factors, with Computerised Health Risk Appraisal an excellent tool in promoting life style modification. Counseling in effective communication and interpersonal relationships on nutrition and healthy lifestyle still help to identify stressors and introduce coping strategies.
