Abstract
The dilemmas and implications of dispensing in the South African situation is evaluated. The vital role the dispensing doctor is highlighted against the backdrop of certain aspects like maldistribution of health services, cost of medicines, doctor-pharmacist ratios, medical aid societies, sick benefit societies, urban-rural proportions and doctor-patient relationships.
