Abstract
Most doctors encounter several patients every day who are ready to TALK, but not always when they, the doctor, are ready to LISTEN. Psychiatrists usually dismiss patients whom they cannot help, but GPs must be available at short notice for all. The troubled patient may well present with bodily symptoms if he cannot get our attention otherwise. This paper includes case presentations from the authors practice, illustrating the above points and will show that if the doctor, can tune in to what his patients are REALLY saying, he will be able to care for them in a far more effective way
