Abstract
In this Opening Address at the 7th GP Congress Dr Hackland. identified 4 important areas of development which impact directly on the future of health care in South Africa: National Policy, Manpower', Training, and Population Development and Planning Processes. All these point strongly in the direction of primary health care, and after giving an historical review of the situation in 54 he concluded by making a strong plea for the maximal use of all resources to achieve the goal of Health for All.
