Abstract
A cross-sectional study was done to determine whether it was necessary and cost effective to do routine screening the syphilis of all males with urethral discharge. The study was done in the Department of Family, Medicine, Umtata General Hospital, and the findings of only 5,1% indicate that it was not cost effective to do routine screening in this Department.
