Abstract
Traditional medical teaching is that hypertension is asymptomatic. But many patients think they can tell if their blood pressure is up and many practitioners take patients' blood pressures in response to symptoms. During the past few decades, increasing attention has been paid to the importance of the subjective, including patients' thoughts, feelings and, expectations about their illnesses.
