Prevention
Abstract
Family Medicine practitioners sometimes think of 'Prevention' as something that other people primarily do. For some it is synonymous only with'Pap smears'. lmmunisation has, by and large, been delegated to nursing colleagues. Those screening activities such as insurance and'pre-employment' medicals are also often carried out by a third party. The universal problem of 'lack of time' counteracts even the best attempts at preventive counselling.'Opportunistic health promotion', however, has been a defined aspect of our function for some time, and is confirmed by the USPSTF.
