Abstract

Several incidents occurring in quick succession prompted the exploration of this topic. First was the commencement of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Amendment Act, 1997 and 2007, of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act 101 of 1965, which came into affect on 2 May, 2003. Next was the suspension by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Pan Pharmaceuticals Limited's manufacturing license for six months. Pan Pharmaceuticals is said to be Australia's leading manufacturer of complementary medicines.
