Abstract

The psychosocial model has become accepted into family practice as it begins to find its own home base seperate from that of the more academic and specialized medicine taught at most medical schools which focuses on expensive technological solutions to the problems of ill health. Integrative medicines adds another dimension with its emphasis on life style managment , attention to defining the underlying dysfunction and using natural solutions to move the system from dysfunction back to function. As function improves healing and health begins to emerge and homeostasis returns to the body and mind. This model does not deny the need for drugs and surgery if appropiate.
